I called Sympatico regarding our business BIHS service. I wanted to
confirm the start-date of our 3-year contract, and also to confirm the
details of what happens if we take no action at the end of the contract.

The details being that if we do nothing during the 30-day period after
the contract has ended, then we are automatically committed to another
contract term (3 years in our case).

I told the agent I was probably going to terminate Sympatico service and
switch to another provider. The agent (a middle-aged, Jamaican-sounding
female) didn't really seem to care.

I asked what my options were with Bell/Sympatico, and got several
minutes of confused dialog from her, with lots of references to 6-months
free, other references to 20% discount for a year, free installation,
etc etc.

I asked several times to simply boil it down to what my monthly fee
would be for their best offer for a 1-year contract. I finally got an
answer, which would basically be the same as what we're currently paying
($85 / month).

Bell has been screwing us over the 3-year term by jacking up the price
of the static-IP charge (I think it's something like $20 when it was
originally $5 3 years ago).

Natually, when I asked her to fax me their best offer, that was an
impossible request. They will put nothing in writing.

I believe that I'm looking at $65 / month for the same service with
Teksavvy, but I'll probably have to buy a modem. Any suggestions?

Apparently you were only talking to some drone. Next time immediately ask
to talk to a supervisor and anytime they say they can't do something,
demand an answer as to why. Maybe you did with this (apparently braindead)
person, but with a supervisor, it should be different. If it isn't switch.
You don't need to waste time with people who can't staff their business
office with competent employees.

If you want decent service, go with Teksavvy. Why would you bother
with Bell when they obviously don't care about you?

Don't gimme that crap "Steve" we all know you're using free dial-up to
post this. You can make it look like you GOTZ a job to pay for your
internet but I know better. Are you still splitting the cost of cable tv
with the next-door neighbour?
