Discussion:
OPP using unmarked Dodge Caravan in the London area

For those of you who drive the 401 through or near London, be aware of
an unmarked dark Dodge Caravan (Blue or Green).

A light bar should be visible behind the glass of the rear hatch. No
lights on the top.

License number is AKEY 523 (first 4 letters may not be exact, but
it's 4 letters, space, and 523).

It will probably be moving with the traffic, and will nail you from
behind. Most probably it will go with traffic and wait until someone
blows past it at 130 or 140, then it will follow. If you get close
enough to it from behind, look at the plate or look for the lightbar
in the back window (the lightbar will run practically the full width
of the rear window, but is only maybe 2 inches high).

So do what I do and rotate your radar detector to point backwards from
time to time.

Watch out as operation "Highway Thievery" kicks into high gear this
holiday weekend.

I hope the truckers read this. Maybe they can box him in or force him off
the road. Well my shift is almost over at the deli.

Well it's not. You're using the server without paying for it. All of
you who are outside the Aliant customer base have been reported.

Look Mr. Seldon.

Yes, at one point I and others found the Aliant server and started
using it when Sympatico finally shut down their servers. I have
absolutely no remorse or guilt about doing that.

But then a month ago the Aliant server stopped accepting connections
from Sympatico customers.

(if anyone who is an Ontario Sympatico customer is still able to use
the Aliant server, please speak up and say so).

Mr Seldon - if you look at the header of my post, you will see it was
posted via nntp.aioe.org, and not via the Aliant server.

In addition, if you are an Aliant customer, what are you doing reading
the sympatico news groups?

And your point is?

You were the one claiming I was posting via Aliant.

So what's your beef against any Sympatico people who might be using

You say that you're not even using it.

What the hell is your problem?

:-) I don't have a problem....

My original post was meant to be humorous dip-wad. All you had to do
was look at the source info and you would have known that.

But then what else would anyone expect from someone who thinks it's cool
to bypass or indeed break the law.

Bull. He's started about this month as you know from firsthand

So how do you figure that I am a Sympatico customer and am reading this on
an Irish news server? Usenet isn't owned by you or anyone else. If your
Usenet server carries it, it carries the posts of everyone not just your
provider.

This is a *open* group on the REAL usenet - the exact opposite of the
original sympatico ones - they only existed within sympatico, this only
exists outside of it - despite the same name.

Yes, 'fraid so. It is also available on news.bell.newshosting.com although
you have to pay to post, but you can read free. Not available on
newsgate.x-privat.org for some reason. The fact you are reading on Aliant is
irrelevant and complaining to them will bring no joy, but might however give
them a larf.

Have a good Thanksgiving weekend :>)

What's the matter? running out of insurance companies are we?

A 300km journey traveled at 100km/hr takes 3 hours.

A 300km journey traveled at 120km/hr takes 2.5 hours,
which means you get to your destination 30 min. sooner than the 100km/hr
driver.
Generally you're given 10km/hr grace, when exceeding the speed limit, so
the 100km/hr driver may actually be traveling at approximately 110km/hr.
Therefore, in actual fact you arrive a mere 18 minutes earlier than the
100km/hr driver.

Is the saving of that 18 minutes worth a $180.00 fine and the loss of 3
demerit points.
Further, the fine for using a radar detector ranges from $100.00 to
$1000.00 and results in the confiscation of the radar device as
well (a decent one costs in excess of $250.00).

So, let's see, so far that 18 minutes has cost you somewhere in the
vicinity of $500.00 to $700.00 and the loss of 3 demerit points.
(assuming the radar fine is way below the *maximum* fine allowed)

By the way, the shorter the trip, the more *ridiculous* the result.

You may want to take into consideration that police may set radar traps
whenever and wherever they choose. That is the law. It is *your*
responsibility to stay within the parameters of the law if you don't
want to be ticketed and fined (or worse).

When you reach the level of expertise and authority which enables you to
change the laws then do so, by all means. Until that time I would
suggest that you simply obey the current laws to the best of your
ability and make your complaints to the proper authorities, without
prejudice. You may do so as many times as you wish and I'm sure your
opinions will be given all the consideration they deserve.

In the meantime, this subject is most definitely OT
